Unbound Horizons – Wing Series
DescriptionI selected Unbound Horizons - Wing series (2018-2025) because it beautifully exemplifies the dialogue between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary interactive design. Created by world-renowned glass Maestro Lino Tagliapietra, this installation brings together over 70 years of artistic mastery with a subtle technological layer, offering a contemplative experience that honors both the artist’s legacy and the exhibition’s focus on movement, nature, and innovation. Unbound Horizons - Wing series (2018-2025) is composed of twelve glass seagull sculptures animated by programmed light patterns inspired by the natural murmuration of birds. As the light flows rhythmically across the work, it creates the illusion of motion and transformation—offering a sensory encounter that evolves across time and space. The piece subtly incorporates interactivity and environmental responsiveness, merging ancient techniques from Venice with digital choreography.
For the SIGGRAPH community, this work is a powerful reminder that innovation can emerge not only from software but also from material excellence and long-term artistic vision. Tagliapietra’s collaboration with interactive design brings a poetic dimension to digital art, demonstrating how traditional forms can participate meaningfully in technologically mediated spaces.
