This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-impact projects at the intersection of spatial computing, machine learning, and immersive design. \n\nAs an Associate Research Scientist, you will work with senior scientists, artists, and engineers to develop, implement, and evaluate AI models and 3D tools that support the creative process. Your role will focu s on scientific evaluation, technical execution, model training, integrati on, and prototyping within a fast-paced R&D environment. \n\nYou will repo rt to the Associate Lab Director within Disney Research Imagineering. \n\n This is a full-time role.\n\nWhat You Will Do\nAssist in developing, train ing, and testing generative models for 3D content creation and spatial des ign tasks. \n\nEvaluate state-of-the-art techniques for 3D content creatio n, to bring the best, most up-to-date recommendations to our business use cases \n\nConduct original research in generative AI, focusing on 3D model generation, scene synthesis, and simulation. \n\nImplement AI pipelines a nd tools using modern machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFl ow). \n\nSupport integration of AI models with game engines and 3D tools ( e.g., Unreal, Unity). \n\nContribute to the development of interactive pro totypes for internal user testing and demonstration. \n\nCollaborate on da taset preparation, evaluation metrics, and model tuning processes. \n\nCoo rdinate with internal and external research partners, including academic i nstitutions, industry labs, and vendors. \n\nDocument research and project s for multiple audiences, to ensure knowledge sharing and reproducibility, and communicate research insights. \n\nStay up to date with the field of research for generative 3D modeling and animation. \n\nRequired Qualificat ions & Skills\n3+ years’ research experience in applied machine learning, computer vision, or graphics programming \n\nFamiliarity with generative m odels and 3D imagery technologies (e.g., GANs, 3D diffusion models, NeRFs) and their use in 3D or visual applications. \n\nProficient in Python and experience with deep learning libraries (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow). \n\nH ands-on experience with 3D data (meshes, point clouds, voxel grids, implic it surfaces). \n\nFamiliarity with computer graphics fundamentals, geometr y processing, or simulation. \n\nAbility to bridge AI model development wi th practical deployment in 3D visualization, asset creation, and construct ion coordination. \n\nAbility to write, debug and review C, C++, and Pytho n software. \n\nStrong problem-solving and communication skills; ability t o work collaboratively on multidisciplinary teams. \n\nA desire to work in a creative environment where technical and creative experts collaborate a nd challenge each other every day to achieve truly groundbreaking solution s \n\nPreferred Qualifications\nFamiliarity with real-time rendering engin es (Unreal Engine, Unity) and 3D modeling toolchains (Blender, Houdini, Ma ya) enhanced by AI workflows. \n\nExperience developing AI applications fo r interactive design, spatial computing, and XR (VR/AR/MR) simulations in entertainment or architecture. \n\nStrong understanding of animation princ iples, motion synthesis, kinematics, and behavioral AI. \n\nExperience wit h generative models for animation, such as motion transformers, motion dif fusion models, variational motion encoders, or reinforcement learning for animated control. \n\nExperience integrating animation systems into real-t ime engines \n\nFamiliarity with motion capture data pipelines, retargetin g techniques, and animation blending. \n\nDemonstrated ability to bridge t echnical research and production-quality animation systems, ideally throug h previous work in film, games, or immersive media. \n\nContributions to o pen-source projects or prior internships in research labs or innovation te ams. \n\nInterest in construction tech, architecture, or fabrication workf lows is a plus. \n\nEducation\nPhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Compu tational Design, or a related field with a focus on AI/ML, computer graphi cs, or interactive systems. \n\nAdditional Information\nThis role is locat ed in Glendale, CA.\n\nBenefits and Perks: Disney offers a rewards package to help you live your best life.
