Biography
Since 2025, I have been a Full Professor at the University of Technology Sydney, where I previously served as an Associate Professor (2017–2024) and Senior Lecturer (2017–2022). From 2005 to 2017, I held a permanent research position at the Visual Computing Laboratory of the National Research Council of Italy, the country’s largest research institution.
My research focuses on Computer Graphics and Geometry Processing, with an emphasis on developing novel algorithms that bridge fundamental theory with cross-disciplinary applications such as computational fabrication and architectural design. I obtained my PhD in Computer Science from the University of Genova in 2009 under the supervision of Paolo Cignoni, Fabio Ganovelli, and Enrico Puppo. My PhD introduced new methods for interactive fracture simulation and real-time texture synthesis. During my postdoctoral work at New York University, I developed new techniques for mesh processing and analysis.
Since then, I have applied geometry processing to a wide range of domains—architecture, digital fabrication, elastic material design, and semi-interactive modelling—producing tools and methods now used both in research and industry. My work has led to several patents and numerous publications in top venues such as ACM SIGGRAPH / ACM Transactions on Graphics, IEEE TVCG, and Eurographics /Computer Graphics Forum. I have also co-authored award-winning open-source software, receiving three major Software Awards for Libigl (2015), MeshLab (2017), and HexaLab (2022). Throughout my career, I have collaborated with experts in manufacturing, construction, mathematics, surgery, and the arts. These partnerships continue to inspire new research directions and highlight the broad potential of geometry-processing solutions
