Fernando De la Torre has been a research faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute since 2005. His research interests are in the fields of Computer Vision and Machine Learning. In particular, applications to human health, augmented reality, virtual reality, and methods that focus on the data (not the model). He has published over 200 peer-review conference papers/journals in computer vision and machine learning, and he has served as an Associate Editor for Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence. In 2014, he founded FacioMetrics LLC to license technology for mobile human sensing, which was acquired by Facebook in 2016.
